POSITION SUMMARY
The Training & Onboarding Specialist is a key member of the Portobello America Human Resources team, responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering a welcoming and effective onboarding experience for all new employees. This role also owns the development and facilitation of ongoing training programs that support employee growth, skill development, and career advancement across all departments.
This individual plays a central role in building a strong company culture by ensuring that every employee — from their very first day — feels welcomed, informed, and set up for success. The Training & Onboarding Specialist will collaborate closely with department managers, HR leadership, and senior staff to ensure training initiatives are aligned with company goals and employee needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Onboarding
- Own and manage the full new hire onboarding process from offer acceptance through the first 90 days
- Coordinate Day 1 orientation — including facility tours, introductions, systems access, badge setup, and paperwork completion
- Prepare and maintain onboarding materials including welcome packets, handbooks, checklists, and training schedules
- Serve as the primary point of contact and resource for all new employees during their onboarding period
- Collect and analyze new hire feedback to continuously improve the onboarding experience
- Ensure all I-9 documentation, e-Verify, and compliance-related onboarding tasks are completed accurately and on time
Training & Development
- Design, develop, and deliver training programs across all departments including manufacturing, warehouse, sales, and administrative functions
- Identify training needs through collaboration with managers, performance reviews, and employee feedback
- Build and maintain a training library of materials including presentations, guides, videos, and quick-reference resources
- Facilitate classroom-style, on-the-floor, and one-on-one training sessions as needed
- Coordinate and track mandatory compliance training including safety, OSHA, harassment prevention, and company policy
- Partner with department leads to develop role-specific training plans for new hires and existing employees
- Support career development initiatives including mentorship coordination and skills assessment tools
- Maintain training records and reporting dashboards to track completion, effectiveness, and employee development progress
HR & Culture Support
- Support the HR Manager with special projects, employee engagement initiatives, and culture-building programs
- Assist in planning and executing company events, recognition programs, and team-building activities
- Contribute to the Employee of the Month program and other recognition efforts
- Help maintain HR communications including announcements, newsletters, and employee notices
- Act as a positive, approachable presence for employees — modeling the culture and values of Portobello America
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Education, or related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in HR, training, onboarding, or a related people-focused role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — comfortable speaking in front of groups and presenting to employees at all levels
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects simultaneously
- Positive, approachable, and people-first attitude with a genuine interest in helping others succeed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred to support our diverse workforce
Preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment
- Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS platforms
- Experience developing training materials, SOPs, or onboarding programs from scratch
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or relevant HR certification (or actively pursuing)

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works primarily in an office environment with regular movement throughout the facility including production floors, warehouse areas, and break rooms. The role may occasionally require:
- Standing or walking for extended periods during onboarding tours and floor training sessions
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 lbs. (training materials, equipment, supplies)
- Flexibility to support first-day orientations for employees on various shifts, including early mornings or occasional evenings
