This role also owns the development and facilitation of ongoing training programs that support employee growth, skill development, and career advancement across all departments.

This individual plays a central role in building a strong company culture by ensuring that every employee — from their very first day — feels welcomed, informed, and set up for success. The Training & Onboarding Specialist will collaborate closely with department managers, HR leadership, and senior staff to ensure training initiatives are aligned with company goals and employee needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Onboarding

  • Own and manage the full new hire onboarding process from offer acceptance through the first 90 days
  • Coordinate Day 1 orientation — including facility tours, introductions, systems access, badge setup, and paperwork completion
  • Prepare and maintain onboarding materials including welcome packets, handbooks, checklists, and training schedules
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and resource for all new employees during their onboarding period
  • Collect and analyze new hire feedback to continuously improve the onboarding experience
  • Ensure all I-9 documentation, e-Verify, and compliance-related onboarding tasks are completed accurately and on time

Training & Development

  • Design, develop, and deliver training programs across all departments including manufacturing, warehouse, sales, and administrative functions
  • Identify training needs through collaboration with managers, performance reviews, and employee feedback
  • Build and maintain a training library of materials including presentations, guides, videos, and quick-reference resources
  • Facilitate classroom-style, on-the-floor, and one-on-one training sessions as needed
  • Coordinate and track mandatory compliance training including safety, OSHA, harassment prevention, and company policy
  • Partner with department leads to develop role-specific training plans for new hires and existing employees
  • Support career development initiatives including mentorship coordination and skills assessment tools
  • Maintain training records and reporting dashboards to track completion, effectiveness, and employee development progress

HR & Culture Support

  • Support the HR Manager with special projects, employee engagement initiatives, and culture-building programs
  • Assist in planning and executing company events, recognition programs, and team-building activities
  • Contribute to the Employee of the Month program and other recognition efforts
  • Help maintain HR communications including announcements, newsletters, and employee notices
  • Act as a positive, approachable presence for employees — modeling the culture and values of Portobello America

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Education, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in HR, training, onboarding, or a related people-focused role

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects simultaneously
  • Positive, approachable, and people-first attitude with a genuine interest in helping others succeed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred to support our diverse workforce

Preferred
