About the Role
TCOM is seeking a Staff Solutions Engineer to be responsible for understanding customer missions and requirements, translating into a concept, and presenting technical concept and business case to customer. Along with Business Development team, is a primary interface with customers and internal management, especially as it relates to technical solutions to customer problems. Integrates and aligns technical solutions with solid business cases, contractual language, and bids, and helps drive
program capture activities for Stratospheric Balloon and Radar products and related engineering and flight/field services.
Essential Functions:
- Understand customer needs and customer missions.
- Work with customers and other Aerostar engineers to identify and develop technical solutions for a customer problem.
- Identify Aerostar product(s) and service(s) that will meet customer needs.
- Balance technical trade-offs against schedule and cost risks and present these decision points to the management team.
- Define and maintain product level feature specifications, system layout, and documentation.
- Coordinate with BD team and other engineers to support ROMs and bids for customer programs (product deliveries, customer installations, services).
- Attend Customer IPRs, IPTs, TEMs, etc. and provide after-action reports and track to completion.
- Provide technical subject matter support to business development team during initial customer engagements.
- Provide perspective to less experienced solutions engineers regarding impact of technical decisions on product architecture.
- Develop technical solutions for larger programs.
- Develop proposals and bids for larger programs.
- Escalate key product/feature trades to management for discussion and then influence customer direction based on feedback.
- Coordinate long-term technical roadmap for a customer or stakeholder group.
- Highlight new business model(s), new product lines, or new business ideas for TCOM.
- Participate with engineering as a key contributor in the development of technical and product roadmap, as well as product internal architecture.
- Serve as product evangelist and subject matter expert.
- Promote development of best practices within Solutions Engineering.
- Maintain close connection to the product market(s) to provide valuable input in the new product development process.
- Learning, understanding, continuously improving, and promoting the division’s quality management system in accordance with ISO standards.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field. Masters preferred.
- Experience with engineering project leadership or systems engineering required.
- Experience with engineering team management preferred.
- DOD or Gov’t experience preferred (prior military or civilian experience).
- 10+ years related experience required with 4+ years leading technical projects.
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) desired.
- Program Management Professional (PMP) qualification desired.
