About the Role

HealthPartners is currently hiring a Key Account Manager – Government Accounts. This role leads strategy and relationship management for the organization’s largest commercial public‑sector health accounts, retaining and expanding business by delivering measurable value. As the primary client lead, the Key Account Manager coordinates cross‑functional teams to provide integrated health care solutions that improve health outcomes, control costs, and elevate the member experience—serving as a trusted advisor and delivering customized, high‑impact strategies.

 

The position directs strategy across medical, PBM, dental, wellbeing, and onsite clinic management. Occasional travel is required for strategic partnership meetings, health fairs, and open enrollment sessions.

 

This position reports to the Manager of Government Accounts and is part of our Major and National Accounts Health Solutions team. The team comprises skilled Account Managers, supported by dedicated Client Service Specialists, working together to deliver exceptional service and strategic solutions.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) years of sales/account management experience in the health solutions industry.
  • Proven success managing large, complex clients with multi-site and/or national operations. 
  • Minnesota insurance license within 3 months of hire.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted Driver’s License (in the state of residence) free of major traffic violations or a pattern of repeated violations for the last 3 years and daily access to a dependable, insured vehicle.
  • Deep understanding of health care administration and funding models. 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities in a face-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels within the organization.
  • Proficiency with computer software and contact tracking programs.
  • Familiarity with disease management, case management, and disease prevention programs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Health Administration, Public Health, or related field.
  • Ten (10) years of account management experience.
  • Experience with government sector employers.

 

Hours/Location:

  • Monday – Friday; core business hours
  • This is a hybrid position. The current expectation is to work onsite one day per week (Wednesdays) and as needed for internal or client meetings. While there are no plans to change this schedule, it may be subject to future adjustments.
  • This position requires occasional travel—approximately 10% annually—within the Midwest to attend strategic partnership meetings, health fairs, and open enrollment events.

 

Responsibilities:

  • (15%) Drive client retention, on a profitable basis, through proactive service, strategic insight, and measurable value delivery. 
  • (15%) Serves as the primary point of contact for health care strategy and execution, owning the overall client relationship.
  • (15%) Build deep, consultative relationships with client stakeholders, including HR, benefits, finance, and executive leadership. 
  • (10%) Develop and maintain relationships with lead consultants and/or brokers on accounts.
  • (10%) Develop and maintain strategic business plans that align with the client goals, industry trends, and organizational capabilities. 
  • (10%) Translate complex health data into actionable insights, collaborating with internal clinical, product, and operational teams to ensure solutions are evidence-based, scalable, and measurable. 
  • (15%) Proactively engage clients to understand their goals and identify opportunities to expand client relationships by recommending additional HealthPartners products or services that align with their evolving needs. 
  • (10%) Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to resolve issues, implement solutions, and deliver exceptional client service.
